-
- The B-BALL Single Game Version was designed for those individuals who want a
- user friendly computer game where the user can coach any of the pro teams (or
- a draft team) against another pro team or draft team coached by another user
- or coached by the computer.
-
- The B-BALL Full Season Version was designed to be used by the pro teams for
- team and player analyses. With it the user can play an 82 game season for any
- of the pro teams against any schedule of opponents or can play the entire pro
- league season of 1107 games in one hour or less with a comprehensive final
- statistics files displayed after the games have been played.
-
- The B-BALL Predict Games Version was designed for predicting the outcomes of
- upcoming pro games using statistically updated 1993-94 pro team and player
- files, where the user can play up to 1000 computer simulated games for each
- upcoming pro game he wishes to predict the average score, point differential,
- and total points scored of.
-
- The following commands can be typed to start the B-BALL programs or read
- B-BALL files:
-
- BBALL starts the B-BALL software
- README displays this file
- READSGV displays a file describing the B-BALL Single Game Version
- READFSV displays a file describing the B-BALL Full Season Version
-
- As soon as any of the programs are started, there is an option to display or
- print the program instructions.
-
- B-BALL PRO BASKETBALL FOR THE COMPUTER (the B-BALL Single Game Version):
-
- In obtaining B-BALL Pro Basketball for the Computer you will get the most
- statistically accurate user friendly computer pro basketball game available
- today for IBM and compatible personal computers. In using B-BALL you can play
- any pro team against another, play pro teams from different seasons against
- each another, even play teams composed of players that you draft from the
- different pro teams (even players from different pro seasons drafted onto
- the same team) against the actual pro teams or against other draft teams.
- Entire leagues composed of teams of drafted players can also be formed (great
- for play-by-mail basketball leagues) with up to 28 teams in any single draft
- team league. This is also ideal for fantasy/rotisserie type leagues where
- league members can see how their teams would perform against the other fantasy
- or rotisserie league teams with extremely realistic statistical results.
-
- When playing B-BALL you have three different options on how to play any single
- game. First, you can have the computer play both teams, with either the
- play-by-play narrative text pausing after each team possession so it can be
- read or with the narrative text scrolling continuously so games can be played
- quickly (in a few seconds on most PCs). Second, you can play a team manually
- (human coach) versus a computer played team, where you, as the team's coach,
- can make player substitutions, assign a man-to-man defense, press full court,
- even double team opposing players. Third, you can play both teams in a game
- manually. When playing a team manually you even have the option of deciding
- who to pass the ball to in many situations (dependent on your players ball
- handling abilities) or you can let the computer dictate the passing based on
- how often the players actually handled the ball in real life while you still
- coach the team.
-
- At the end of a game you have the option of saving both the game box score and
- also the game statistics. All of the game box scores for any league can be
- saved for viewing at a later time and all game statistics can be saved to
- accumulate total player and team statistics. B-BALL has an extensive stats
- compiler that shows four full screens of statistics for each team including
- per game stats and single game highs and lows, and also lists league standings,
- league leaders in eight different categories (scoring, FG%, 3PT FG%, FT%,
- rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots), a team's game scores, and the
- top ten single game performances by all players in points, FGM, FGA, 3PFGM,
- 3PFGA, offensive, defensive, and total rebounds, assists, steals, turnovers,
- and blocked shots for all of the games played in a single league.
-
- But most of all you will find that the statistical accuracy of B-BALL closely
- reflects just how the pro players actually performed in the previous season,
- moreso than in other computer games. B-BALL was designed specifically with this
- intent in mind. In terms of the game's playability and user friendly features,
- we are ALWAYS willing to listen to your ideas on how to improve the game. Any
- comments or suggestions on B-BALL are most welcome. Most of the game's user
- friendly features were originally suggestions from customers that have since
- been incorporated into the game so please do not hesitate to let us know your
- ideas. Please call Bob Chaikin at 216-291-9243 with your comments (or if you
- have any problems with the program) or write to

- for any further information, including how to obtain future revisions of the
- B-BALL program and also disks containing pro teams from earlier seasons. Teams
- from the past that are presently available include those from the following
- seasons - all of the pro teams from the 1977-78 season through the 1992-93
- season, and the ABA of 1975-76.
-
- THE B-BALL STATISTICAL MODEL FOR PRO BASKETBALL (B-BALL Full Season Version):
-
- B-BALL Pro Basketball for the Computer, the Full Season Version, is an
- extremely statistically accurate computer program that simulates professional
- basketball. It is based on current 1992-93 pro basketball regular season
- statistics and also past season statistics. The B-BALL Full Season Version can
- be used in a number of ways, including:
-
- a) predicting the outcome of a single upcoming game between two pro teams
- that is about to be played in real life during the 1992-93 season by
- playing any number of games between those same two teams, using updated
- and current team and player files, and determining an average score,
- point spread, and total points scored between the two teams (easiest if
- you use the B-BALL Predict Games Version).
-
- b) replaying an entire season for all of the pro teams (1107 total games
- for the 27 pro teams) and obtaining accurate statistical results in less
- than one hour with complete league, team, and players stats displayed.
-
- c) replaying any number of games (up to 82) for any single team against any
- schedule of opponents to predict the outcome of that team's season.
-
- d) determining a team's optimum substitution pattern, i.e. the substitution
- pattern that results in the most wins for the team.
-
- e) determining whether a future trade or free agent signing would be
- advantageous to a team in terms of producing more wins for that team.
-
- f) determine which players and teams produce the most fantasy points for
- teams in fantasy/rotisserie basketball leagues using any or all of the
- following statistics (your choice of which to use): 2PFGM, 3PFGM, FTM,
- REB, AST, ST, TO, BS, FGmissed, and FTmissed.
-
- The B-BALL Full Season Version program is ideal for play-by-mail leagues and
- fantasy/rotisserie type leagues. Using the B-BALL Single Game Version users can
- draft all of their play-by-mail or fantasy league teams into a single league
- and then use the B-BALL Full Season Version to have the computer play the
- entire play-by-mail or fantasy league season in a matter of minutes. It then
- displays a detailed final statistics file that can also be printed out that
- contains league totals, league standings, league leaders, all player individual
- statistics, individual player fantasy/rotisserie points generated per game, per
- minute, and total based on the statistics you chose to keep track of, and more.
- This playing of the league season can be performed any number of times to
- determine consistent results between the league teams.
-
- Using the B-BALL Full Season Version you can also determine which players would
- be best for your fantasy/rotisserie teams, i.e. which players would produce the
- most fantasy/rotisserie points for your team. Using the program you have the
- option of using any or all of ten statistical categories in your fantasy/
- rotisserie league formula (2PFGM, 3PFGM, FTM, REB, AST, ST, BS, TO, FG missed,
- and FT missed). You can even simulate player trades or free agent aquisitions
- and replay a complete 82 game season for your team in a matter of minutes to
- see if a certain player or players added to your team would increase your
- team's win total. You can even play your fantasy/rotisserie team against the
- actual pro teams to see how it would stack up against them.

-
- THE B-BALL PREDICT GAMES VERSION:
-
- The B-BALL Predict Games Version can be used for the purpose of predicting the
- outcome of upcoming professional basketball games by using statistically
- updated and current 1993-94 pro team and player files. Since the program simply
- plays games between two teams, you can play as many games between any two teams
- that are about to play a game in real life as you feel are necessary to produce
- an average game outcome. You can play as few as 1 or as many as 1000 computer
- played games between any two teams for the purpose of determining for each
- upcoming pro game an average game score, point differential, and total points
- scored. Games are played very quickly on most personal computers, two to three
- seconds per game on an IBM 286 compatible, less than one game per second on an
- IBM 486 compatible.
-
- Default team substitution patterns are set up in the program so that players
- will play approximately the same amount of minutes per game that they are
- averaging during the current season. However you should change these as you see
- fit, such as if certain players are injured and not available to play in an
- upcoming game. In other words, if a team's star player cannot play in an
- upcoming game, take him out of his team's substitution pattern and replace him
- with the bench player most likely to play in his place, so that the replayed
- game outcome reflects that player not actually playing. The accuracy of the
- program in predicting the outcomes of upcoming pro games is obviously dependent
- on the players who actually play in those games, thus do not use a team's star
- player in that team's substitution pattern if he is not available to play in
- that immediate upcoming game being predicted.
-
- After choosing a substitution pattern type, you then choose home and away teams
- for each pro game to be predicted, with the most games being predicted at one
- time being 13 (the most games that can be played in any single day since there
- are 27 pro teams). You simply type in either a team's city, the team nickname,
- or the team 3 letter code into the home and visitor columns.
-
- After typing in both a home and away team for a scheduled upcoming pro
- game that you want to predict the results of you then type in the number of
- computer simulated games you want to be played between the two teams (from 1 to
- 1000 games).
-
- As the games are being played the following items are displayed on the screen:
-
- 1) the home and away team
- 2) the total number of games played between the two teams
- 3) the home team W-L record
- 4) the score of the most recently played game
- 5) the average game score
- 6) the average game point differential
- 7) the average total points scored per game
-
- As opposed to trend analysis programs used for handicapping the outcomes of pro
- basketball games, the B-BALL Predict Games Version actually plays games between
- teams involved in upcoming pro games and gives the average outcome based on the
- players statistical abilities at that time during the season. And unlike trend
- analysis programs which take into account team trends but do not take into
- account which players are actually playing in certain games, in B-BALL you can
- still predict the outcomes of pro games when certain players are injured and
- not available to play by simply not inserting those players in their team's
- substitution pattern.
-
- Because of the statistical accuracy of the B-BALL software, and also by the
- nature of what the program actually does, i.e. play computer simulated games
- between the pro teams based on current team and player statistics, the accuracy
- of the software is unparalleled by trend analysis software.
